Kanye West Donates $2 Million For George Floyd Causes, Joins Chicago Protests

While people are protesting across the United States to battle the injustices faced by the African-American communities, many celebrities are stepping up to provide monetary assistance for legal procedures and other causes of not only George Floyd, but also other black Americans that were previously assaulted.

Kanye West, one of America’s top rappers, recently donated $2 million to the families and the legal teams fighting for the justice for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. Not only that, West also took a major step to safeguard George Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna’s future by setting up 529 college savings fund to cover her college tuition fees completely. Without stopping there, he went on to make separate donations to Arbery and Taylor families to help cover their legal costs. Kanye West also joined the protests in Chicago, protesting the death of Floyd alongside students of the Chicago Public School.

One of West’s representatives reported that West has made donations to several black-owned businesses in Chicago, his hometown, as well as throughout the country.

Since George Floyd’s brutal murder by a white police officer on the 25th of May, a series of protests and riots erupted all over the United States, demanding a full stop to systematic racism and police brutality which is highly prevalent in the country.

Killings of Arbery and Taylor are also prime examples for this. While Arbery who lived in Georgia was shot and killed by three white men in February, Taylor, who served as an emergency medical worker, was murdered by Louisville cops in her own home in a “no-warrant case.”
