Driftwood into Fantastical Sculptures- Amazing Transformations

Artistry is something that you born with. Canadian artist Debra Bernier is now at its crowning bringing amazing transformations to let you see nature in a different eye. When we see a piece of clay, a branch or a log, she sees an untouched opportunity.

We see these earthly objects just as they are. But Bernier sees something different. She believes she could turn these usual things into something astonishing. Take her driftwood carving for example here. Bernier turned a piece of wood into a beautiful female looks like a goddess figure. And it is made honestly of earth’s origins.

As to Bernier, “When I work with driftwood, I never start with a blank canvas”.

As to her, the wood tells a story. And she is trying to consider of its journey. As to her “I extend or shorten the curves and contours that already exist into familiar shapes of animals or peoples’ faces”.

For Bernier, there is nothing off-limits in nature. In the history of her life,  she has used stuff like stones, seashells, and parts of some plants and trees in the forest in order to craft exciting maternal figures. What she does here rises a linking to the components that connect them with the concept.

And as to her, “The finished ones are a reflection of not only my life, my family, and children, but of an eternal, sacred connection we all share with natural life”.

So she proves how close we are to nature and how nature makes us beautiful inside out.
